The new year is upon us and we have a whole new year to look forward to. One of hope, positivity and enthusiasm. With a new year comes new trends, wedding dresses included. With that in mind, we have collected some of the soon-to-be hottest wedding dress trends of the year to help plan your big day.

If you’re getting married during 2014, these are the hottest looks around!

New York, New York

Thanks to the recent New York’s Spring/Summer 2014 Bridal Market show, we have an idea of some of the best dresses around. One thing that stood out what the continuation of sleeves on dresses. Fine lace sleeves adorned many a dress, including those from Chantilly, Keveza, Marchesa, Guipure and Schiffi.

Detailed backs on wedding dresses were also something we saw a lot of at the show. Gone are the simple lines down or across and in are details, lace, keyholes and interesting shapes. Rita Vinieris-Rivini, Amsale, Peter Langner and Angel Sanchez all showed some great detailed backs. We think they look fabulous!

Another thing we saw a lot of at the show was detailing. There were a lot of dresses with layers of silk, of lace, with three dimensional flowers, jewels and frills. Oscar De La Renta was just one of many designers who showed some amazing pieces with lots of eye-catching embellishments. Others included, Kenneth Pool, Theia and Reem Acra.

It seems 2014 is not the year of the understated dress!

Layers were another wedding dress trend we saw a lot of at the show. Dresses by Reem Acra, Carolina Herrera and Oscar De La Renta all featured layers of silk and lace that added volume, cover and interest to their dresses.

Given that these dresses are for spring and summer 2014, it wasn’t surprising to see some wedding dresses cut above the knee. What was surprising was how good they looked. If you have the legs for them, these dresses really are something special. Monique Lhuillier, Marchesa and Jenny Lee all showed some amazing dresses cut at, or above the knee that looked amazing.

Other Wedding Dress Trends for 2014

The New York event is far from the only wedding dress show in town. There are lots of home grown talent and trends to follow too. We have been talking to some wedding boutiques in the south of England to see what they are planning for this year.

Here is what they think will be hot, hot, hot this year!

High Necklines

High necklines on wedding dresses were very popular during 2013 and that is expected to continue throughout 2014. Either lace or sheer necklines that echo the romance era of Audrey Hepburn are going to be exceptionally popular.

Embellishment

As we saw at the New York’s Spring/Summer 2014 Bridal Market show, embellishment is definitely in. Our bridal experts think so too. It seems fur, feathers, crystals and diamantes are going to be especially popular inset into the wedding dress to wow as the bride enters the room.

Beads are also expected to make an appearance too as we shift from vintage to art deco inspirations. It offers designers an incredible amount of freedom. Freedom we fully expect them to exploit to its fullest!

Modern

To add complete contrast to layers, lace and embellishment, there is also the rise of the modern wedding dress to consider. A range of designers have created sleek, modern dresses with little or no detailing, slim fit, elegance and refinement. If you simply can’t picture yourself in a full wedding dress, these may be your answer.

Covers

As we head further into 2014, into autumn, it seems covers and jackets are making a comeback. We saw some great ones at the end of 2013 and the trend continues into 2014. Designed to fit the dress, expect to see satin, fake fur, feather or rich fabric over the shoulder jackets to keep you warm during colder days.

Feathers

Talking of feathers, it seems they are going to be big this year as embellishments. We have seen autumn dresses from Acra, Ines Di Santo, Johanna Johnson and Rita Vinieris-Rivini all feature feathers on their dresses and they look amazing!

Those are what are regarded as the hottest wedding dress trends of 2014. We have seen some of them in action on the catwalk and expect to see them again at celebrity weddings and walking proudly through our own wedding venue. Which would you go for?
