2020 Wedding Flower Trends

by Laura Howes

Flowers play a very crucial role in any wedding. As well as being important aesthetically, they are also a must-have for the bridal party – brides and bridesmaids, grooms and groomsmen, flower girls and pageboys… all of them rely on flowers to lift their outfits to another level and tie the whole wedding together!

What’s more, flower trends have really moved on in recent years, with couples getting very creative and, at times, daring with their choice of flower arrangements. So, wouldn’t you like to keep up to date with the latest trends in wedding floristry?

Floral Moongates

Floral arches have long been popular to frame the entrance of a venue, room or marquee, however, newly engaged couples are moving towards modern structures like metal backdrops and geometric stands. What’s more, moongates are now making an appearance in a big way. Not only are these huge circular structures a bold statement, they also have deeper meaning too. Moongates are said to represent magical doorways and could therefore be a nod to stepping into a new life as a married couple. Your wedding florist will have a choice of arches for you to choose from, and can decorate the structure with flowers and foliage to match your theme.

Oversized, Messy Bouquets

The bridal bouquet is, of course, one of the main attractions and will be shown off in every picture featuring the bride. Florists are seeing a demand for bouquets that are packed full of flowers with natural, trailing foliage in a messy style. This bohemian approach works well with almost any type of wedding as professionals know just how to make the bunches look elegant and graceful by matching suitable flower heads with complementing leafy greenery. One of the great things about a looser bouquet is that you can cut the cost of a tight, round posy-style bouquet by opting for more earthy foliage such as eucalyptus without compromising on beauty.

Pale Flowers

Finally, though every couple has their own unique taste, one trend that we are seeing again and again is the choice of lighter, neutral palettes. Metallics such as gold, silver, copper and rose gold are so easy to lift a theme and matching these shiny elements with simple, pale flowers seems to be the way to go in 2020.

Neutral tones don’t have to be boring. Many brides marry whites and creams with vibrant limes and greens or use trailing bows to add a pop of colour to an understated bouquet.
